A Vancouver Island man has been barred from going within 100 metres of any school after RCMP were notified of online threats to "shoot up" a school. North Cowichan-Duncan RCMP Cpl. Kevin Day said Thursday the man reportedly made the threats Tuesday during an online chat with a Sarnia, Ont., woman on the MySpace social-networking website. Day said the woman was able to find out the man's location and identity, which she then reported to her local police department. Sarnia police alerted RCMP, who arrested a 24-year-old Duncan man.

After investigating, police said the threat level was low, as the man does not have access to firearms and is described as "somewhat intellectually challenged" by the family he lives with. "The threats were not targeting any particular school," Day said. "He is not currently attending any school." The man is expected to face charges of uttering threats.
