It has been 10 years since we first saw the masses trying out to become the first American Idol. Online auditions are now available as a way to celebrate this milestone! You can get all the details, including more photos and a video below. We thought there was only one more audition in Los Angeles for hopefuls to make it to the show, but maybe there is another way. Fox announced on Wednesday, Sept. 15th, that they teamed up with MySpace to allow people to send in performances through the social networking site!
In a statement about the American Idol online auditions, the company said:If you have a webcam and the internet, you can record yourself and be judged. According to their announcement singers are allowed 40 seconds to sing one of the approved songs a cappella. Contestants can pick from tunes including Bill Withers’ “Ain’t No Sunshine,” Keith Urban’s “Kiss a Girl” and Barry Manilow’s “Copacabana” (according to MTV). Submissions can be made from now until October 6th.
They will be evaluated similarly to the live tryouts by the panel. I wonder what we will see of that when the show premieres in January? Will they show them and the reactions to them? It seems a lot of the anniversary season will be new and mysterious, including the judges. We are still waiting on final confirmation of who will sit on the panel this year, though we are supposed to know next week.
MySpace’s popularity has definitely declined since the invention of Twitter and Facebook. But maybe with the backing of the hit reality series it will have a revival?
What do you think about the decision to allow people to do their American Idol audition online? Will you take advantage of this opportunity for stardom? Check out these photos and Ryan Seacrest’s promo video below, and then leave me your comments.
