Every day I drive U.S. 27 from Avon Park to Highlands Regional hospital during the morning rush hour, and at other times of the day. Sometimes I use the Sebring Parkway, so I am around the Sebring Parkway/U.S. 27 intersection on a daily basis, along with crossing other so-called "dangerous" intersections on U.S. 27 on the way to Highlands Regional.
Consistently I read in your newspaper about the daily traffic accident count and personally every day I see constant flouting of the traffic laws: Red light running, speeding, cutting around traffic, no seat-belts. Always, you can forget the yellow turn arrow along with the red arrow especially at the Sebring Parkway. Still, in all the years I have observed these conditions, I have yet to see any consistent presence of law enforcement or cars-trucks pulled over for violations.
If we could have a week or two of more police driving on U.S. 27, I am sure the accident rate would be much lower. Take a look for yourself, traffic scoff-laws have a free ride all day, driving on what you call our most dangerous stretch of road, and putting all others at risk of a severe accident.
